Whats the connection with the following ?. A tradition in Soham that a "calf's head besmeared with blood was hoisted on a pole". The Calve's Head Club (secret society) Oliver Cromwell The English Civil War King Charles I Royalists & the Puritans Answer:- Addison House in Sand St Recent research has found a secret that Addison House has held for 300 + years. If you can add anything to this Story or have any information, documents or family legend we would like to hear from you. We are trying to find out who the Royalists or Puritans were in Soham at the time of the English Civil Wars, and whether Soham was really a Royalist stronghold as tradition has us believe or was it really divided. Just a surname can help us. Another story has been told to us that Oliver Cromwells pay master also lived in Soham in a cottage that still stands today, research on this is still ongoing. You can read more about the secret of Addison House in our history pages on Soham Roots Thanks Tim & Julie Webb

I wonder if anybody has any land near the station or on Soham Mere, that would be willing to let me metal detect or field walk, just to see if any remains flew in that direction. If anyone has, I would be pleased to hear from you. Thanks. Tim Webb

Julie the story of arches tombstone etc around the garden of a house in White hart lane ties in with a story that next to the redundant building opposite olympic tyres there is masonary of the type relating to a religious building, I have been told by Dennis the watch repairer that there are archs hidden in the old White Hart again can any body shed some light, certainly Roman coins have been found to the rear of Poppies, also I was told that when the old post office now llyods bank was being built a tomb was found I was told St Felix tomb!!!! again anyone have any supporting evidence. Also why has the recreation ground never been built on except oer by the pavillion which i believe was the old palace could this be the site of the soham cathedral??????????

Just read the official account of the disaster again , it seems they do think the carrage went downwards as they did not find any axles or bed therefore it must still be there . As the train has derailed at Ely and it will be 6 months before the line is open I have e mailed the time team group at channel 4 to see if they will do a special on these brave men and give them the recognition they deserve nationally. I feel there were a few george crosses not awarded that should have been and the other men involved deserve recognition

I remember a Family story that my Dad, when he was a teenager, along with his friends used to go down a tunnel in the vacinity of St Andrews House, and it used to come out underneath the Church in the Crypt, they alwa**aid that they could see coffins so would make a hasty retreat. I think that from this story, ( which has been related to me by other people ) that the Church is Crypted, I know that from research there are several Family vaults beneath the Church as well. Another Family story is that my Grandparents along with my Dad his Brother and Sister arrived back in Soham in 1941 after being bombed in London, where they had lived for 15 years. When they arrived back in Soham they went to live with my Grandmothers Mother, Mary Jopson on Qua Fen Common, they were treat as evacuee's although my Grandmother was born and bred in Soham, my Aunt attended the Evacuee School in the Church Hall, my Dad went to the Shade School and my Uncle was older and I believe went to work at the Clark and Butchers Mill along with my Grandfather, who spent the rest of his working life at the Mill. Not long after arriving in Soham and the short spell living with Mary they rented a small cottage on Angle Common, where my Dads youngest Brother was born, they had only been in the cottage for a short time when the ammunition train explosion happened on 2nd June 1944, their cottage being quite close to the station was severley damaged and they had to be re-housed, they then rented a house in Cowell Terrace, White Hart Lane, and it was whilst living here they made a discoverey in the garden, my Grandfather wanted to put up a garden shed and proceeded to dig the footings, it was whilst doing this that he discovered an arch way buried in the garden, the digging of the footings was stopped and the discovery was hastily recovered and the shed placed on the top. It is also worthy to mention that at the bottom of the same garden there was tomb stone.

Does any body know what happened to the carrage that exploded in the rail disaster was it buried, vapourised or removed some where else , as the official report was unable to pin point the cause with modern forensics on the remains might help in solving this enigma
