Shown
on a map of 1656 as Horsecroft Fenne, situated West of the Soham water
mill. Angle Common like the other commons in Soham was in 1943
requisitioned by the War Agricultural Executive Committee in order to
obtain higher food production, and Angle Common to the east of the
railway line was ploughed up, then after the war, the Minister of
Agriculture made proposals for the acquisition of all Soham's Poor's
Commons but owing to local opposition all but that referring to the
Shade Common were dropped. The W.A.E.C. wartime contract provided that
the commons should be returned to the commoners in the same state as
when they were requisitioned. Consequently all common lands in Soham
except the Shade Common were drilled with grass and de-requisitioned.
