The Salvation Army established a barracks in Soham in the 1890's, their building today is situated in Bushel Lane opposite the old Bushel and Strike public house. The building was refurbished in 1995. Two early 20th century bands in Soham, one the Excelsior, encouraged by a curate, the other from the Salvation Army, were both united in 1921 and became the Soham Comrades Band, Still going strong today.
