The
County Infants School opened in 1875 in Clay Street under a Mistress,
it had a large schoolroom and classroom and also a Teachers house
attached on the side. Prior to 1914 the School had c.260 Children which
fell to 115 in the 1930's. The School closed in 1971 with the opening
of the new infants School called The Wetheralls. After standing empty
for many years it was refurbished and opened as the new Soham Library,
the Library moving from it's smaller premises in Churchgate Street.
