The photo on the left was taken looking down Bancroft Lane from Holmes Lane, with Qua Fen Common just out of view on the right.
On the right is Bancroft Lane looking towards Holmes Lane.


The present day position of Bancroft Lane is recorded on a map of 1650 & 1656 as Silvers Lane. Bancroft Lane is marked on these maps but in a different location, its location today would be along the first part of Northfield Road of Holmes Lane, but before reaching the Bypass turn right up what is now a footpath (A Right of way), leading to Bancroft Drove, then into an open area what was called in1650 Bancroft Field, later in 1656 Bancroft Corner, a part of the present day Qua Fen Common.

Bancroft Lane until recently was a quite lane leading to a farm with just a few houses on either side, running along the edge of Qua Fen Common, but a few years ago much housing development has taken place, especially at its far end changing its character completely.
