Centre road downfields sohamThe photo on the left was taken half way down Centre Road, looking towards were Downfields Windmill is situate just behind the Bungalows.

Downfields is on the Southern tip of Soham abutting the Road to Wicken (Military Road) and the Fordham Road into Soham, in 1836 the Downfields area was called Soham Field as marked on the map of 1836, So far we have recorded here three Windmills existing at the same time, only one now remains, called today Downfields Windmill. We are unsure precisely when the houses at Downfields were built, but probably the 1930's / 40's, if anyone can correct us on this, we would be most grateful. No record of Centre Road can be found before the houses were built. One end of the road comes out on the Wicken Road (Military Road) the other the Fordham Road into Soham.
