Fordham road sohamFordham Road SohamFordham Road runs Southeast from Sand Street towards Fordham. In the 16th century it was styled as a Causeway. In 1656 the first part from Sand Street to Cherry Tree Lane was called Market Street, then from Cherry Tree Lane to the beginning of Downfields it widened considerably this section being called Butchers Causeway, after this again called Market Street leading of towards Fordham. On a map of 1901 the first part from Sand Street was called Kings Parade.
The photo on the left was taken in Sand Street, and shows the turning on the right leading to The Butts, and the road leading straight on to what is known today as Fordham Road. The photo on the right shows the Cemetery entrance to the right.
