Hall street sohamHall street sohamHall Street lies  further North from Pratt Street and so called by 1460. Shown on a map of 1656 it followed it's present coarse and continued on down Holmes Lane into The Holmes and Townsend North Closes. It was inhabited in 1656 by about 25 houses and still only a few in 1840. Also known as and spelt in 1397 Hallestrete, and in 1452 its was spelt Halleway, Here in 1272 lived a Thomas ed Aulam .
In 1846 several fires broke out in Hall Street destroying most of it, it was just after this date when the majority of the houses on the right hand side towards Ely were built in their place, see our history pages if you would like to read more about these fires and who was involved.
The photo on the left shows the Bushel & Strike public house on the right, now closed and turned into a private residence.
