Northfield Road is located North of Soham with Holmes Lane at one end then going out of Soham over the bypass into the Fen where its name changes at the Hasse Road junction to Great Fen Drove. In 1650 and 1656 the first part from The Holmes for a short distance is called Bancroft Lane its name then Changing to Metlam Way, leading into Metlam Hales and Metlam Field, ending up in a area called Common of Soham Cottes. In 1841 it is described as North Field Road.
